The Humbling Power of Connection: Lessons from my first Retreat

I’m writing with a heart full of gratitude and awe after hosting my first retreat in Canaan Valley WV. I thought I had planned every detail—from hikes and workshops to meals with my wonderful caterer and friend, Peter. I even prepared for every weather scenario and carefully curated yoga locations. Yet, despite all this preparation, the experience unfolded in ways I could never have anticipated.

Instead of leading the retreat as I'd imagined, I found myself humbled and inspired by the incredible mix of personalities that came together. The connections we formed and the creativity that blossomed among the group went far beyond my expectations. For me, it was a powerful reminder that sharing our journeys is a two-way street—one that enriches us all. I learned so much from each person who joined me.

This experience has reignited my passion and deepened my understanding of what truly matters: genuine connection. Needless to say, I”m already thinking about the next retreat. Be brave, Anne. Maybe I should put a fingure on the map and see where it lands... If you missed this one, stay tuned...

In other news...

I’m super excited to share that this summer, my solo exhibition titled “Lightscapes” will be featured at the lovely Lost River Trading Post gallery in Wardensville, WV. The show will run throughout July and August, celebrating the magic of encaustic and light.

Join me for the opening reception on July 6th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Lost River Trading Post gallery, located at 295 East Main Street. It’s the perfect chance to experience encaustic up close, enjoy the eccentric vibe of this unique venue, and mingle with fellow art enthusiasts.

Lost River Trading Post is a local gem known for its blend of gallery, bakery, coffee shop, and artisan marketplace — a wonderful place to explore and support over 300 local artisans and crafters.

For updates, sneak peeks, and more, follow on Facebook and Instagram.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

I can’t wait to see where our shared experiences take us next.
